Finding What's There - Do You See It?

Finding What's There - Do You See It?

I let my left hand do the abstract above. Then I fiddled with it for a few weeks, though mostly I just kept looking at it turned different ways. I nearly dove in and drew something on top of it twice in the last two weeks. A week ago, when I took the shot above, I still didn’t see anything to bring forward.

Then today the face and back and closer paw jumped out at me, and I spent an enjoyable afternoon bringing the rest of it out. This photo doesn’t do it justice - it’s a very hot orange - using the somewhat ephemeral Neon Orange Prismacolor pencil that is perhaps the greatest craving of my color sweet tooth. Picture the heat of nasturtiums, or the deepest and most beautiful pumpkins. Until I can get out in the full sun to photograph the recent work, all I have are these darkish and diminished images. I’ll hopefully replace them, later.

Watercolor, colored pencils and a little acrylic. 19 x 19 inches on Arches 140 lb hot press paper.
