Too Many Pieces Going at Once?
Right now I have the following all in progress:
- A small acrylic painting of a jack rabbit running straight towards the viewer
- A mixed media piece of a jack rabbit running full-tilt, and leaning heavily into it
- A watercolor and ink piece of a group of trees in bright bleaching light
- A watercolor of a dryad willow on a mossy bank looking down on a passing swan family
- A mixed media with wild cut-out flowers glued all over the lower half and a pair of cut-out figures riding a leaping reindeer
- An acrylic of a white throated sparrow in a mandarin orange tree
- A mixed media piece of a bird flying in an abstract space with rudbeckia
- A pastel of Old Man Sycamore with reflections in a canal-like stream at his feet
- A watercolor of an alien set of signs on a post in the middle of nowhere
- An acrylic and ink painting of a large crow with hundreds of smaller crows flying all around it
- A watercolor of a building and a bear (that's all I want to say about that one)
- An acrylic of waves, toy boats, anchors, and sharks with a diving gannet
- A small acrylic of a city bus full-face-on - just the pencil outlines so far
- A pencil drawing of two guppies, a frog and a crayfish filling the entire rectangle
- An acrylic painting of a calling raven who wanted to be green as well as dark
- A small acrylic with a playful lap dog as part of the landscape
I've never had this much going on at once. It isn't bothering me, but it is tying up all my boards, and not finishing feels like it's becoming a habit. And while I'm learning things from each piece that inform my work on all the others, and while rotating them in and out of focus has caused cross fertilizing of ideas and techniques, I think they are slowing me down now.
So I finished the full-tilt jack rabbit; I am declaring the sun bleached trees piece done; I am going to take the dryad off the board and store her for now (maybe later complete it with another medium, not watercolor, but I actually can't warm to the personality she has, and that's been a lot of the hold up). This afternoon I'm working on the Wild Ride with flowers, the large crow, the bird in flight, and the building/bear pieces. Maybe I can complete some of these four this week.
