Deer and Wild Strawberries
This drawing is one of many I have done lately with my non-dominant hand (left, for me). The deer and ribbon like shapes were initially laid down with the left, then refined with the right. Then all the little ornaments in the background “fabric” are drawn with the left, with the pen, and then watercolor painted over them in a loose way by the right. I’ve come to love this collaboration, and the different feeling and results that come from letting the left hand have a say.
I have childhood memories of finding and eating the tiny wild strawberries of June - these capture the peculiar shape and delicacy of those tiny morsels.
About 14 inches square on watercolor paper - watercolors and ink.
